About the Invictus Games Foundation

The Invictus Games Foundation supports the recovery and rehabilitation of wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans around the world, using the power of sport and adventurous challenge to help people rebuild their lives, find purpose and reach their potential.

The Invictus Games Foundation is the international governing body of the Invictus Games and the organisation that exists to ensure the Spirit of Invictus continues to have an impact every day, not just during the Games.

Established following the inaugural Invictus Games London 2014, the Foundation governs the delivery of the Games, awarding licences to host cities and working with local organising committees to oversee and guide every iteration. This includes setting and maintaining the standards of the Games, overseeing competitor categorisation and sporting frameworks, and ensuring that each Games delivers a meaningful legacy for the Invictus Community.

Since London 2014, the Invictus Games have grown from a one-off event into a global movement. The Games have been held in:

  • London, United Kingdom, 2014
  • Orlando, United States, 2016
  • Toronto, Canada, 2017
  • Sydney, Australia, 2018
  • The Hague, Netherlands, 2020, held in 2022
  • Düsseldorf, Germany, 2023
  • Vancouver Whistler, Canada, 2025
  • Birmingham, United Kingdom, 2027
  • Daejeon, Republic of Korea, 2029

While the Invictus Games are central to our work, the Foundation’s role extends beyond the Games. We support the Invictus Community year round through the We Are Invictus app, working with participating nations and organisations to create opportunities for members to continue their recovery through sport, physical activity and adventurous challenge. We also bring the Community together to share knowledge and best practice in recovery and rehabilitation.

Through the We Are Invictus platform, we connect members of the Invictus Community with opportunities that support continued recovery and rehabilitation beyond the Games. Through We Are Invictus, members can take part in a wide range of activities, including sport, adventurous challenges, training, events and community experiences. These have included opportunities to run the London Marathon, take part in hiking challenges in the USA and trek through Borneo, alongside many other sporting and adventurous activities. The programme enables members to stay active, develop new skills, take on new challenges and maintain connections with others across the international Invictus Community.

The Foundation’s strategy focuses on strengthening the international Invictus Movement and catalysing systemic change in the recovery and rehabilitation of wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans. This includes focusing resources where the need is great, strengthening the Invictus Community built over the past decade, supporting the development of participating nations and organisations, and using the knowledge and experience of the Movement to influence wider approaches to recovery and rehabilitation. The strategy recognises that the Foundation’s role extends beyond the delivery of the Invictus Games, with a focus on creating sustainable opportunities and building the capacity of the wider Community year-round.
